Acid rain is defined as rain or any other form of precipitation that has elevated levels of hydrogen ions (low ph), or in simple words is acidic. Acid rain is rain with a lower than normal ph, caused by emissions of sulfur dioxide (so2) and nitric oxides (nox), typically from factories, though there are natural sources.
These react with the water molecules in the atmosphere to produce acidic rain water.
This is quite bad for aquatic animals, plants, and buildings. Lakes and streams become acidic ( ph decreases) when the water itself and its surrounding soil cannot neutralize the acidity in the rain. Acid rain brings great harm to nature and human health. Burning of coal, wood or petroleum produce sulphur and nitrogen.
